Choose a Vacation, Not Toys
The other day, a friend asked me what my earliest memory was.
Hmmm... I had to give it some thought. Was it a toy I got for Christmas? The time we had a picnic at the beach? When Mom and I made an angel food cake with colored sprinkles? Or the day I got to row a rowboat all by myself?
It was most certainly the day my Dad let me row the rowboat all by myself. I was about 5 years old and I was so happy and proud.
I started reminiscing about my childhood and all the fun, funny, happy, and memorable times I could remember were all "events" and not "things".
My work gig is that I own Four Seasons Lodge in North Conway, NH and realizing that my fondest memories growing up were almost exclusively time spent with family or friends playing, vacationing, and celebrating was an epiphany for me.
I started to wonder if I was onto something - turns out I was.

Family-Friendly Journey to the North Pole – The Polar Express
Here are some really fun things to do in North Conway, New Hampshire during your holiday this year (or any year).
Sometimes, getting away for the holidays is the best way to celebrate with the whole family. You could spend your holiday down in Florida where it’s warm but then you miss out on all the coziness and things to do in North Conway that winter has to offer.
Trust me, no one is wrapped in a blanket, sitting by a fire and drinking hot chocolate in Florida…but they are doing it in North Conway.
We All Ride the Family Struggle Bus.
Do you ever strive to have a drama free and perfect holiday with your family?
We all do! But it’s a struggle to stay friendly with all your family plus, you'd be one of a kind if it was perfect!
We all have them, and they can be a blessing, an annoyance, or downright frustrating. Either way, you are stuck with them…and no I’m not talking about freckles! I’m talking about families.
Holidays can be a struggle and the larger your family is the more likely you are to get on each other’s nerves to some degree. Holiday season means shoving parents, step parents, siblings, girlfriends, boyfriends, crazy aunts, crazy uncles, crazy cousins, and pesky in-laws into one room and expecting a beautiful, happy holiday. What a nice dream.
Everyone has a messy family. No one is perfect, and no one has a perfect family no matter how hard they try to prove otherwise.
It’s easy to pretend your family life is purely beautiful and functional when you’re all focusing on your own lives but once the holidays arrive all of that pretending flies right out the window. The holidays are a great time for families to get together and remind everyone how dysfunctional we truly are, sometimes in the best ways.
We are locals and know the ins and outs of North Conway.
