White Mountains Have Many Ghosts!
Thursday, March 30, 2017
World renowned, the White Mountains of New Hampshire are known for the wide variety of skiing opportunities available to skiers of every level.
There are over a dozen resorts that vie for tourists and locals alike by offering well-manicured trails, slope-side lodging and high speed chair lifts. In contrast to these spiffy resort areas there are over sixty former ski areas that have closed since the 1930's and many still remain is a ghost-like state.
Jeremy Davis has compiled rare photographs, maps and personal mementos to ensure that these historic ski outposts, cherished by generations of skiers, are given recognition for transforming North Conway and the White Mountains into a premier ski destination.
Stop by to celebrate these former ski areas at this presentation. Attendees are encouraged to bring along their skiing mementos, photos, and stories to share.

White Birch Books presents Lisa Gardner’s International Launch Party
Monday, January 30 at 7pm
Horsefeathers Restaurant in North Conway Village
It’s that time of year again, when we look forward to a new thriller by award-winning author, and Valley resident, Lisa Gardner.
RIGHT BEHIND YOU is the new book and it comes out on Tuesday, January 31. The first place to see Lisa and get your signed copy is the night before at the White Birch Books International Book Launch Party, hosted by Horsefeathers Restaurant, right in the center of North Conway Village.
The book launch party is a truly collaborative event. Horsefeathers, a North Conway village landmark, will be offering their regular menu for those who want to make a night of it. The bookstore will be there with all of Gardner’s books.
“We have always enjoyed teaming up with Horsefeathers for this event,” said Laura Cummings, owner of White Birch Books. “They are great hosts and this has become quite the regular annual outing!”
RIGHT BEHIND YOU. Eight years ago, Sharlah May Nash’s older brother beat their drunken father to death with a baseball bat in order to save both of their lives. Now thirteen years old, Sharlah has finally moved on. About to be adopted by retired FBI profiler Pierce Quincy and his partner, Rainie Conner, Sharlah loves one thing best about her new family: They are all experts on monsters.
Lisa Gardner is the Valley’s own New York Times bestselling author and has written 17 previous thrillers. She lives with her family in Jackson where she is always at work on the next book, or involved with various community projects.

About Return of the Pumpkin People
We are celebrating our 31st year of the "Return of the Pumpkin People"...
We are extending the dates at the request of so many of our visitors and members. In order to be able to offer this amazing event for such a long period of time we have to make some minor exceptions to the rules of play. Therefore, live pumpkins will only be necessary for the first 14 days. Once the live pumpkins are in need of replacement participants may use artificial replacements. We ask that everyone understands once we have passed October 20 we can not guarantee that all displays will still be standing and or in great condition. Weather is always a factor.
The process of putting together a display is time consuming and, depending upon the properties vision, can demand a substantial financial investment. Each property works hard to put up their display and they deserve the recognition that comes with being a part of the event. When visiting be sure to tell the host properties you appreciate their effort... we certainly do.
Return of the Pumpkin people is a self-guided tour where you use an official Return of Pumpkin People Map to find the properties who are official host properties. Be sure to look for the official logo identifying each host property. Maps and "People's Choice" ballots will be available at all participating properties. Maps can be printed off the front page of this website by September 10th.
We would love to see your pictures posted at the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce's Facebook page JacksonAreaCC.
